Hey, guys! Wow, it’s been so long since I’ve had the chance to sit down and write to you guys! Thank you so much for baring with me as I get the blog up and running on its site! But here we are and I am finally getting a new post up. Monday and Tuesday are my boyfriend’s day off so we are decided to drive up to La Jolla. It has a very different vibe from ocean beach where we live. If you are looking to find an awesome little place to spend a day here are all my suggestion on things to do during a day in La Jolla.
A Day In La Jolla: What To Do
There is so much to do and enjoy in La Jolla. An amazing beach, an awesome little aquarium and of course tons of bars restaurants and little shops to explore.
Start the day by going to brunch at one of the many legendary places in town. Harry’s Coffee Shop is known for having some of the best food and a great cup of coffee. Fuel up for the day ahead by stopping for a bite.
Next visit Birch Aquarium at Scripps. Part of the UCSD campus, it’s not the biggest aquarium. It is definitely worth the $18 adult ticket to get in! 60 plus habitats with 5,000 fish if you arrive early enough in the morning you can watch staff feed the sharks. An awesome experience for sure! You can get through the entire place in about 2 hours. There is something for everyone. From those who are interested in the science to those like me who just want to go stare at all the colorful fish and watch the sharks! Enjoy the Green Flash Celebration, June 21st on the terrace overlooking Scripps pier and the ocean as the sun sets! Go check out the loggerhead sea turtle they rescued from New Jersey, she is so camera friendly and so cute to watch.
Touch urchins, coral and other sea life in the tide pool and take in the view on the terrace looking out over La Jolla Cove. Once you are done head down and park in the lot next to the beach. Stroll down the pristine white sand, watching surfers. If you are feeling adventurous rent a kayak and paddle out into the water. If you are lucky you’ll find a variety of sea life. Feeling really bold? In the summer months, you can swim out and snorkel with hundreds of leopard sharks. They come to the cover every year.
Sign up to take surf lessons or Kayak into the Sea Caves along the cliffs for a truly amazing experience you are sure not to forget. A paradise for surfers and water athletes alike. Whether you want to jet ski, go parasailing or just relax in the sun you are sure to find a way to enjoy the white sand and warm waters that grace this hot spot for athletes and sunbathers alike.
Once you’ve soaked up enough rays go talk a walk through the restaurants, bars, and shops to find a place to rest your legs. Shore Rider is an awesome little beach bar, featuring a laid-back surfer vibe, great prices on beer and drinks, and some great food. Everyone will find something to enjoy in this little outdoor patio bar. With rotating taps, my boyfriend and I enjoyed sitting here for an hour or so taking a break from all of the excitement.
With so many little boutiques and galleries, the shopping district of downtown La Jolla is sure to having something to impress everyone. Torrey Pines State Park is just up the Pacific Coast Highway. You can stroll through the sand or enjoy a round of golf. It’s one of the best and most scenic courses out there. Hungry after you are done with a round on the course or a day on the sand? Walk to Robertos Taco Shop for some of the best Mexican food and a nice cold refreshment. Eat while watching the waves and birds fishing in the distance.
All in all spending a day in La Jolla was the perfect change of scenery from Ocean Beach. We had a great time. I hope that some of these suggestions help you plan what to do when visiting this little beach town. Go check out my post on how to spend a weekend in San Diego for more suggestions on fun things to do while enjoying the sun here! I love you all and hope you have an exceptional week!
