Spring is in full swing here in San Diego which means I am craving beautiful bright colored dresses and flowy bohemian things, and gladiator sandals. The sun is shining the tank is clean as they say in Finding Nemo, and I am ready to start embracing the sunshine even if my pale skin might blind unsuspecting passer-byes. Dresses are the lazy girls best friend because it’s like getting to wear a fancy t-shirt and you don’t have to worry about matching an clothing.
Maybe another reason why I always move to places that are full of sunshine and year-round warmth. It means I can wear dresses all year and never have to worry about putting on real pants. One of the things I miss about Arizona but San Diego’s weather isn’t too bad either I guess. Okay just kidding, there are very few poor days here and I love all of the sunshine.
Feeling all of the spring vibes I’ve been looking high and low for a high-low dress that’s perfect for petite women. Finding one that isn’t too long or disproportionate was something I honestly thought was outside the realm of possibility for the great powers that be which has on occasion produced fashion miracles. However, this time it wasn’t the great powers but my mom who found this beautiful gem. I usually avoid the color yellow because I feel like it tends to wash me out but when my mom pulled this I knew I had to try it on because there was something so spring and summery about it.
I’ve never had much luck with American Rag but from the second I tried this high low dress from the brand on, it just knocked it out of the park. Of course, the first thing I noticed was that it wasn’t too long in the back and the length in front didn’t hit me in the weirdest spot. And then the pattern, and button detailing made it feel so casual with ruffles making flowy. The color was the last thing on my mind as I looked at myself in the mirror. Mom, as has so often been true throughout my life, was right.
It doesn’t fit like it does the model, but this is a great piece for petite women because the length is still flattering if a little different than it was intended to fit and it can be dressed up with wedges or dressed down with some sandals for a casual day outfit. Pieces like this that can easily transition from day to night or my favorite kinds of items for my wardrobe.
These perfect sandals are great to pair with everything from jeans to this fabulous dress and I am surprised they haven’t broken considering how often they are on repeat. In the spring and summer, the perfect pair of sandals is something you can’t and shouldn’t live without. These ones have been one of the favorites that I’ve ever owned because of how easy they are to wear. Like most flat sandals they might hurt your feet if you spend too much time walking around in them without proper support. However, these are still comfortable for the average day of running around and look great.
A strappy pair of wedges, a must have in any collection. And I know I say that about a lot of shoes but honestly my shoe collection is probably one of my favorite parts of my wardrobe. After you build out a good collection of clothes the best way to change things up, is by switching out fun accessories like shoes and bags. And there are certain styles that shouldn’t be left out of the collection. These wedges are definitely one of those styles. A great neutral color to be paired with so many things.
The heel is the perfect height that you can make these work for more casual outfits and also dress them up for any major summer event. They are plenty sturdy and I have owned mine for probably close to 5 or 6 years and they are still in great shape. I love how comfortable they are and that I am always reaching for these. They won’t break the bank but the quality is there making these great even for those who love to rotate through there shoes every season or so.
I love the boho feel of this bag that feels like it goes perfectly with this dress. The color goes great with the sandals and the wedges helping pull the outfit together. I’ve had this bag for 6 plus years and its still in perfect condition. Real leather and the perfect size to fit everything you need for a day running around. A total favorite find from Macy’s for sure! This brand The Sak has some truly great bags that are worth adding to your collection. It even goes great with boyfriends jeans and a lightweight sweater for an adorable transition outfit.
I can’t wait to rock more dresses as the weather gets warmer, and oh my gosh I am so ready to spend some time outside. I might love being cozy and comfortable in my fall and winter attire but I really thrive in summer and spring. I love flowy dresses and baseball games in t-shirts. Spring is my favorite season and summer in San Diego is one of the best places in the world.
Whats your favorite season? Are you more of a summer and spring type of person or do you crave sweaters and boots with changing leaves and fall?
I hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy some beautiful weather and springtime fun!
