Thank goodness the weekend is here! Its been a crazy week for sure and I couldn’t be more excited to see it in the rearview mirror. Anyone else just feel like they had a lot going on this week? Well for those of you who are riding that train with me, cheers to making it through this week with as much style and grace as possible. Sometimes we come through it rocking a killer outfit, pulled together looking beautiful and sometimes we roll into the weekend barely making it through a Friday, wearing a comfy outfit and consuming more than our fair share of coffee. And this petite Friday outfit it definitely meant for the later type of Friday headed into a weekend needed to help reboot your system.
Honestly, since starting this blog my reality of relaxing is sitting working on my blog or taking pictures or doing one of a million other things to help keep things running. And I love it. I love that most days I am a hot mess and can’t be bothered to put in my contacts or wear makeup or do anything more to my hair than throwing it into a bun or ponytail. It’s not pretty, it’s not flattering though sometimes the pictures make it look that way. But its rewarding, and its addictive. The work, the challenge, the fact that I get to come on here every week and share my favorite clothes with all of you. And so on another Friday afternoon curled up working after well working, I am sharing this comfy flannel and how I style it for my weekends and Friday afternoons.
I might as well tell you about the staple piece of this outfit first. A gorgeous white and black window pane flannel that has completely stolen my heart. I’ve always loved a good flannel but this one is just something else. Its the softest, most comfortable material and I fall in love with it every single time I wear it. Oversized, available in a variety of different patterns, and you can purchase it in both petite and regular sizing, you will love it just as much as I do. I’ve never liked flannels that are more fitted, so when I found this one on sale after Christmas well, I wanted to snatch it up in more colors then would fit in my suitcase. Perfect for taking into spring as the days remain on the cooler side, or great for layering if things are going to remain cold where you live.
Do you love the basics? Well, this outfit is all about them. From the beautiful flannel to the grey henley t-shirt that I wish I had about a million of. There is something about layering some good basics that just makes my heart sing. I am a basics kind of girl through and through, and while I’ve been branching out more, I will always come back to my comfort zone. Never underestimate the power of basics to really give you a great base for the rest of your look. This t-shirt is so perfectly lightweight and I love the buttons that make it a fabulous true henley you can take from day to night to anything in between. I have so many different versions of a henley from tank tops, to t-shirts, long sleeves and even a sweater or two, and I will probably always keep a few in my closet.
Cuffed jeans are a staple for me here in San Diego. I love rolling these skinny jeans during the spring and summer months when I want to wear pants but want more of a warm-weather feel. Is that weird? Maybe but I think that rolling jeans like this give them more of an appropriate feel for those warm weather months. If you’ve been around the blog, you’ll know that I am in love with these jeans. A good classic dark wash pair of Levi’s have stolen my heart and are probably one of the best pairs of jeans I’ve found to date for petite women. Though there is currently another pair that is trying to steal my heart, which I talked about in my last post about styling a basic body suit.
Now let’s talk about the flag in the room. Okay, I know that was a really bad attempt at a joke but I tried. These American Flag Van’s are not only a fun way to rock some patriotic colors but are so pretty, comfortable and great for petite women because Van’s sizing goes down pretty small. I found this at Van’s outlet store in Arizona a few years ago and I’ve been obsessed with them ever since. I’ve rocked them at 4th of July festivities but also at baseball games and any kind of event where I know I am going to be on my feet for long periods of time. I will say if you like to wear orthotics in your shoes you might want to size up a half or full size because these fit true to size and are a tad bit narrow.
Dang, I am so ready to wear this outfit rolling into this weekend and getting a chance to spend a few days away from the office as well. I also have some family coming into town next week so I am really excited to have some time to spend with them. What are your plans for this weekend? Anything exciting?
