Black Jeggings + Denim Jackets: A Black On Black Outfit For Petite Women
Black on black seems to be all the rage right now. I can see why, as black is such a chic and slimming color. Have you ever had the frustrating moment where you think you are slaying a black on black look, and then you step outside and realize you are wearing totally different “shades” of black? I mean what could be worse right? Okay, I mean in the grand scheme of things not that big of a deal, but also just kind of a bummer. I love a good black on black look, and I’ve learned which of my black tops I can pair with what pants to help avoid the different shades of black situation. A black on black outfit for petite women is also a great way to look taller and leaner which is great news for those of who struggle not looking like a 12-year-old.
My favorite black on black look includes some pops of gold jewelry and a great denim jacket to really pull everything together. Depending on what shoes you pair with this look its perfect for a casual day out at the movies, grabbing lunch or a night out for dinner or the bars. Honestly, I didn’t hop onto the whole black on black trend till recently because I don’t have many pairs of black pants. The one pair I did have that weren’t leggings I haven’t been able to fit into in the last year. But now that I can fit into what I affectionately call my skinny pants, I am on board the black outfit train.
I am super picky about my black t-shirts, but I definitely have some favorites that have held up over the years and continue to be favorites. I am also a huge supporter of t-shirts that having something a little unique about them. Windsor store has never let me down with the quality of their clothes, in fact, one of my all-time favorite pairs of jeans is from here as well. I love the strappy detailing on the top of this black t-shirt, that gives it a little something extra, and this t-shirt won’t cling or accentuate anything you don’t want it to. Also happens to be the perfect shade of black to pair with these black pants. I’ve had this shirt for at least 2 years if not longer and it still looks as good as it did the day I bought it.
I prefer my t-shirt be a little oversized and flowy. Not so much that they make my shape disappear but I feel self-conscious and uncomfortable when things cling too much to my skin. If you are in this group this top will be perfect bought in your size. I am wearing an extra small, and at 4’10 it could possibly be a little smaller but I think the shape is great and still looks great on me. Tucking this into pants or leggings, the fabric falls perfectly or it can be worn loose like this and it looks fabulous either way.
Okay, now on to why I call these my skinny pants and why I love them so much. After graduating college I was so focused on starting this blog and finding a job, that my fitness and eating habits kind of went out the window. I gained a few pounds, not a lot of weight but at least enough that these fabulous black skinny jeans didn’t fit anymore. When things finally settled down a bit, I was cleaning out my closet and considered donating them but figured why not try them on again just to see. And they fit! Black pants are a great staple to have in any wardrobe I love these ones because they have a nice stretch to them, are super comfortable and are the perfect length for a petite woman. I don’t mind my skinny jeans bunching a little bit at the bottom and these fit perfectly.
Recently, I’ve fallen in love with jeggings as they are called. A weird mix of jeans and leggings that look like jeans but provide more stretch and comfort like leggings. You’ll fall in love with how these black pants give you a nice shape while allowing you to move and tackle whatever your day has in store. You could even hem these and make them into an adorable functional pair of ankle pants that would work great with sandals or booties. I love being able to just pull these on and go. I will say that the color has faded a little bit as I have washed them but I don’t really mind it as they have faded in a really cute kind of distressed look.
I have an affinity for loving jackets. I really love them and am almost constantly updating my collection, but the one that I will never let go off is a good denim jacket. I mean you can style them with anything and everything depending on your style, the weather or occasion, and I am all for versatility. Styling denim jackets with a dress for a summer night out at dinner, or with an all black look like this is an easy way to add a warmer layer and add a little extra style. Finding one that fits well, meaning its a good length, gives a good shape and hits you in the right spot on your shoulders can be a struggle but Style and Co make great ones that have never let me down. The quality is great, and because they technically come from the juniors section they are cut a little smaller.
If you are looking for a great deal on a denim jacket, check the kid’s section at stores like Gap and Old Navy. They often carry great jackets that are similar to their adult sizes at a cheaper cost. Stores like this also tend to avoid adding bedazzling or bling to their jackets making them great for a more mature look you can wear no matter what kind of event you are heading too.
For a pair of keds that would seem easy to find in California, it took me traveling all the way to Chicago to find these amazing slip-on sneakers that are perfect for a casual outfit. If you do a lot of traveling, are looking for a great casual shoe for the weekend, or have a more casual work dress code these just might be the worlds most perfect sneaker. I’ve worn these through long travel days, 12 hours of standing and running through airports and never had an issue with my feet hurting or them causing me discomfort. They compliment this outfit so well and make it such a good look for running around on the weekends, or meeting up with the girlfriends or even a movie night.
Keds also run fairly narrow, making them a great option if you have petite feet. These fit nice a snug without being too tight. I did have an issue with rubbing until they were broken in but nothing that was really a big issue after a day or so. I mean maybe it wasn’t the best idea to wear these for an all day travel day the first day I wore them but, you live and you learn right?
A layered necklace is a statement piece I included in a roundup of super flattering jewelry piece for petite women. It really added a pop to this basic outfit while still being dainty enough that it worked for a casual black on black look. Black and gold is such a good combo, the gold pops on the black and the shape of the necklace and the vneck t-shirt really help you appear longer and taller. I wasn’t a big believer in the difference that even adding a simple piece of jewelry like this could make until I actually tried it. You’ll really love how it adds just the perfect amount of glamour without looking to dress up if you are just out running errands.
For more petite women the length of this necklace is absolutely perfect. Sometimes it can be challenging to find longer necklaces that aren’t a little off in the length especially if they have a pendant on them. However, this one rests perfectly, giving a nice silhouette and complimenting an outfit. Whether you wear it with t-shirts, blouses or dress it would look great with any v-neck item in your closet. Danity jewelry like this is a great way to pull off some of the hard to wear styles. Smaller chains and little details will make a far bigger impact than something that is too chunky for a small frame.
Getting all your shades of black to match is a struggle, so my suggestion is to look at them in natural light to really make sure that they all match. Again maybe not the biggest deal in the world but for a really flawless, chic look wearing all the same shade of black will really make sure your outfit pops. Adding beautiful touches of gold jewelry, bling, and a jacket will have all your friends asking you to dress them for your next brunch or girls day. And hey, isn’t the ultimate compliment your girlfriends asking to borrow items from your closet cause you are just killing the fashion game.
Black is also a great color as it has a slimming effect, which in turn can help you look taller. But it’s also an extremely confidence booting color. Dressed in all black you’ll feel ready to slay whatever the day has for you and that is definitely going to be your best accessory.
I hope you are all having a great week!
