Hey, everyone! I hope you all enjoyed your Easter holiday weekend for those who celebrate! This weekend was a crazy one for me, not only was Sunday the Easter holiday but Friday was my birthday! So I decided to not only share a reflection of how I spent my weekend but to give some birthday celebration ideas for those celebrating here in San Diego!
Man am I feeling 22. It’s weird, every year I feel a little different about my birthday than the year before especially this year. Last year was like this massive countdown because I was turning 21. It was so exciting that I was ready like 3 months ahead of time. This year, it totally kind of snuck up on me. It was shocking to realize that my birthday was literally just around the corner. After moving out here and still trying to settle into jobs and a routine there wasn’t really a big plan to celebrate. But even if you want a more low key birthday, there are so many fun things to do to celebrate in San Diego!
There are so many amazing restaurants in San Diego. So no matter what kind of food or vibe you are looking for you can always find something. Especially for special occasions. If you want some suggestions here is a great article about some of the best places to celebrate.
We ended up going out and enjoying on of the best meals I’ve ever had at Pacific Coast Grill in Cardiff-By-The-Sea, with my boyfriend’s parents. I got to gorge myself on Oysters on the half shell, Calamari, Shrimp Dumplings, Scallops, Ahi Tuna, and handcrafted Blackberry Margaritas. Of course, there had to be embarrassing singing and blowing out of a candle. It was in an amazing piece of Tahitian Coconut Cheesecake. All of this, while sitting on a patio overlooking the ocean. The sun was setting and whales swam by out in the water. I think I’ll be dreaming about it for a very long time, to be honest.
There are always fun new shows and attractions coming through the city. You never know what you might find. Here is a calendar all of the exciting things you can find to do, for a special and unique birthday celebration ideas.
After all of the excitement, we got, to go enjoy a fun afternoon at the Red Bull Air Races. If you don’t know what they are, they are basically a competitive air show. Single piloted planes race one at a time around a course for the best time. They have to pass through inflated pylons, flying maybe 25-30 feet above the water. It’s pretty incredible and was impressive to see first hand especially in a beautiful setting like the harbor in downtown San Diego.
If your birthday falls around a holiday usually the two celebrations get put together. This means something a little different for birthday celebration ideas. For me, it’s always Easter! And I love that! It means there is always more exciting things to do, see and eat because of holiday brunch menus. If your birthday falls around this holiday like mine check out all these delicious places to celebrate Easter and your birthday with a special brunch!
For me this year though it was an all-day extravaganza with good champagne, good wine, great food and spending the day making homemade pierogis! In case you don’t know what they are, Pierogis are a Polish dumpling that can be stuffed with a variety of different sweet or savory fillings. My favorites are the potato and cheese ones, so I made them for dinner, though as a kid my mom and grandma also frequently filled them with sauerkraut. I’ve included a link to a recipe for them in case you want to make some for yourself. It was the first time I’ve done it completely solo without mom or grandma’s supervision and it went pretty well all things considered. Looking for a great refreshing cocktail to mix up while celebrating with family, check out my recipe for a delicious orange margarita that will make everyone beg for more.
It was an insane weekend but was an amazing way to spend my birthday surrounded by family. I hope this helped with some great birthday celebration ideas for San Diego. I hope you guys all enjoyed your Easter weekends, and are ready to tackle the week ahead!
