10 Best Stores To Shop For Petite Clothing

I love to shop. I get it from my mom but sometimes shopping when you are so petite can be more frustrating than fulfilling. From clothes that never seem to fit right to shoes not coming in sizes small enough and even struggles with swimsuits, lingerie, and jeans, the problems never seem to go away. However, overall my years of scouring through racks, and departments stores of clothes that are either not cut to fit petite women right or look like they are better suited to my grandma’s sense of style than someone who is in there mid 20’s, I have finally found the best store to shop for petite clothing.

Some of them have an outstanding selection and others truly understand the concept of petite, but for whatever reason, these stores are my go-to spots for finding everything from work clothes, to dress for parties and summer attire. No matter what you are shopping for you’ll be able to find the perfect petite fit at one of those stores saving your self-money on alterations and even more frustration in the dressing room.

Nordstrom Rack is a little hit or miss just because it depends on what they have in stock at any given time. Most of the time when I shop here I find some amazing pieces in the petite section that are dynamite additions to any wardrobe. You’ll find everything from great blazers, to sweaters, dresses, and pants all made to fit perfectly and in the latest, trendiest styles for a great discount compared to normal retail. They also have an amazing shoe section that in some stores goes all the way down to a size 4 and also offers kids styles for those of us looking for a deal.

Finding this fabulous BlankNYC Moto jacket was definitely a steal for me as I snagged it for under $50 compared to $100.

Petite Denim Jacket

Amazon. There is no question that amazon has become a great option for finding fashion items. The have a massive selection of great items that often times come in petite or extended sizing. I have had great luck finding jackets, skirts, and other causal items through Amazon and obviously we all know how fabulous amazon prime is. I found the perfect denim jacket that fits like a glove. You’ll love how comfortable it is and how well it fits with casual outfits to go to dinner, brunch or any other causal event.

after christmas sale finds for petite women

Ann Taylor has been a more recent gem for me. I didn’t really shop here until I started needing clothes for work, but now that I’ve found it, I’m obsessed with some of the things I’ve found here, including these ponte pants that I talk about all the time here on the blog.

These pants fit perfectly, and you won’t even have to hem them. They are the perfect fit and made of a nice thick yet comfortable material that gives them a more polish look. You can also find great sweaters and work pants here to all of them made just for the petite women. These structured skinny pants are perfect for work, or just meeting up with your girlfriends on the weekend. Trust me, you’ll wear them so much you might need more than one pair.

ASOS is an online retailer that has an amazing selection of style for petite women. If you are looking for unique styles, gorgeous maxi dresses or something a little different, this is definitely the place I would shop.

I’ve bought maxi dresses on here and not only do they hold up super well but they are the perfect length. At 4’10 I’ve never had to hem or shorten dresses or skirts from ASOS and come on, isn’t that the dream? A black maxi dress with a slight sexy deep v neck never goes out of style, and you won’t even have to alter this one, that’s how well it fits! I am so obsessed with it. You will want to wear it non stop this summer!

Nordstrom while being a bit pricey for something carries some of the best petite brands out there such as Topshop and J. Crew which means I can do all more shopping in one place.

Topshop has great lengths of petite denim go all the way down to 28 inches making them ideal for the shorter among us. I have found some great finds here during the Nordstrom sale and they do carry some more affordable lines as well that are great. I found this  cold shoulder top there that comes in so many cute colors.

Loft  has become a go to spot for me recently. Their petite denim has been a life saver especially when it comes to cropped and ankle length styles that can be tricky to find.

They carry everything from blouses to suede jackets in petite sizes making sure you can find everything you could want for a great stylish look. They are always having sales and are definitely more on the affordable end of the spectrum. This is a go-to stop for casual and date night outfits.

Vici Collection saves lives. This online boutique catered to women 5’3 and under is a godsend when looking for dresses and any kind of cute more boho clothes. A little bit on the high end of the affordable spectrum the pieces are beautifully made and so perfectly tailored for petite women.

You will love everything from tshirts with a cute twist to dresses perfect for date night or any other occasion you might have on your calendar.

Boohoo is a one-stop shop for fast fashion. If you are looking for a trendy look for a night out or to wear through a summer season this is the place for you.

You’ll find some great pieces here that will make everyone’s heads turn. Their small sizes fit really well and when the price is right how can you say no to an adorable romper or that perfect date night dress?

The quality of these really surprised me and I have loved every single piece I’ve bought from them. This Olive green sweater is on repeat all season long during the cooler months and is the perfect casual everyday piece.

New York & Company used to be a store I thought was meant for older people when I was younger. But their petite section is seriously what I have dreamed of finding for my entire life. A store where petite clothing doesn’t mean dressing like grandma, and where sophistication and basics meld together to create the perfect spot to find a killer look.

You’ll be able to find everything from Ponte pants to blazers, t-shirts, and sweaters in a range of sizes. Using their true fit service online so you can be sure that your items will fit perfectly right out of the box. I couldn’t find my button up t-shirt but A cute zip accent blouse is easy to wear, comes in fun colors and is made to fit petite proportions perfectly. Made of a soft flowy material it won’t cling awkwardly and fits loosely yet with a still clearly feminine vibe.

Express is the place I recommend people shop for petite clothing. Most of their clothes come in a petite version and you will want to buy everything in the store.

The clothes are so cute and such high quality that its worth every penny you’ll spend. The price point is great for the quality of the clothes you get and it’s definitely meant for modern young women who love to be stylish and have fun with their clothes, which is exactly what I love most about this store!

If you are looking for a great pair of bootcut jeans that fit just right without being too wide at the bottom or to long, here they are! I love the dark wash with just the right amount of fading and the petite sizing is super on point.

Thank you! When you’re shopping online, how do you know what will fit and look good on you? I’m hesitant to buy online because there are so many different definitions of ‘petite.’

Hi Kate! That’s a great question and I totally understand the hesitation. Usually, I keep track of what my measurements are and that’s the best way to make sure whether something will fit. In terms of cuts and stuff that’s always hard. My suggestion would be to try and if it doesn’t work out you can return it. You may surprise yourself with cuts that look good on you!

Great article. I suffer from the exact opposite problem. I’m a small size but 6 feet tall! Nothing is long enough in the leg/arm.

Thanks for the tips to sites that carry ‘real world petite’ clothing. I am older than I like to think and 4’11” and 95 lbs. I’m not into ripped jeans, jeans that barely cover bikini undies, and super loose tops found in jr sizes. But I’m certainly not into what you call your grandma’s clothes. I like my clothes a bit more tailored, more colored-coordinated, (matchy-matchy as one young girl commented), and comfortable, but not grandma comfortable. Often petite sizes are now too large or mirror popular junior styles. Again thanks for giving names of sites that may offer more of what may fit me. Anyone else feel the same way I do?

      Hi Maureen.
For those kinds of pieces I would look into Gap, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Loft… They all have petite sections and are great for pieces that are adult but not grandma like. I love some of their jeans, blazers, trousers, tshirts, cardigans and sweaters… I am about the same height and weight as you are and love the fit from these brands as well
