Hey, Guys. Wow, I know, I promise to start posting on a better schedule. I’ve just absolutely been failing miserably at it. I will get it together. Anyway even though this post is going up late, I hope it finds you in the mood to gain some inspiration for what to do on a weekend in San Diego.
Of Course, there are the obvious things to do such as the beach, the zoo, SeaWorld. But there are also some unexpected little charms that you can enjoy while soaking up the sun and sand here in Southern California.
Things To Do: A Weekend In San Diego
On a bright sunny day venture into Balboa Park to stroll through all of the amazing attractions. Or climb to the top of California Tower. They treat it like some fragile old girl. Although this sturdy stone tower is safe as it gets. A short easy climb of just over a hundred steps will get you to the top. The reward is a view of the beautiful park as well as Downtown, and the harbor. On a clear day, you can see Mexico off in the distance. It’s a perfect chance for some photographs with a stunning background. Bring a sweater as it tends to get a little windy at the top.
In the spring you can take a little bit of a drive into North County up to the Carlsbad Flower Field. You will be treated to a stunning sweeping spread of brilliantly bright flowers. Snap that Instagram perfect picture looking oh so candid. Just past that in San Clemente is the Rainbow Flip Flop Factory, a quirky little joint that sells some of the best flip flops in the world with a lifetime warranty. No weekend in San Diego is complete without some rainbows!
About 20ish minutes up the coast from the city you’ll find the little town of La Jolla where the Cove is known for its shopping, strolling and restaurants but also for its adorable collection of seals and other sea life. With surf that rarely gets high, it’s the perfect place to snorkel and enjoy all of the ocean creatures. What would a weekend in San Deigo be without being able to snorkel with harmless, awesome 4 to 5-foot leopard sharks?!
No foody or drink connoisseur will be happy spending a weekend in San Diego without strolling through the Gaslamp Quarter. A place where some of the hottest bites and brews or cocktails can be found. It’s a mecca for some of the best of the best and is actually a beautiful walk through the heart of Downtown San Diego. It will give you a great feel for the vibe of the metropolitan area of town.
Once the sun goes down, venture out from the city to Mission Beach and the Bahia Resort. Walk through this stunning property to meet Gracie and Billy the two blind rescued harbor seals that have come to call the little pool at the front of the resort home. Playful and entertaining, stand and watch for a little while. They are so cute!
If you continue through the resort to the marina you’ll find a bay cruise that takes you on a 30 min boat ride to their sister hotel, the Catamaran. While early rides are family friendly, the later evening rides are a mini booze cruise with louder music and a party vibe. Hop off the boat to eat at one of the best restaurants in San Diego, Oceana where you’ll find a small but wide variety menu sure to have a little bit of everything from some of the best sushi, to deliciously cooked mahi-mahi and everything in between.
I hope this post gives you some fun ideas of things to do during a weekend in San Diego! Come enjoy some sun and experience some of the things for yourself. While there is so much to do sometimes, there is so little time. Why not stray off the beaten path and enjoy some unique experiences. Looking to adventure a little further?
